About Kenny's Bookshop

Kenny's Bookshop is an iconic Irish independent bookstore with a rich heritage dating back to the mid-20th century, offering both new books and rare Irish literature.

Founded in 1940 by Des and Maureen Kenny in Galway, Kenny's Bookshop has evolved from a small family-run shop into a cultural institution with international reach. In 1994, it became the second bookstore in the world to establish an online presence, pioneering e-commerce in the book industry.

Kenny's specializes in Irish literature, history, and culture, maintaining one of the most comprehensive collections of Irish interest books globally. The bookshop offers new titles alongside rare and antiquarian Irish books, signed first editions, and literary collectibles.

Despite transitioning primarily to online operations in 2006, Kenny's maintains its physical bookshop and art gallery in Liosbรกn, Galway. The business remains family-owned and operated, preserving personal service and expert knowledge while shipping books to customers worldwide. Kenny's has played a significant role in promoting Irish literature internationally and preserving Ireland's literary heritage.
